With the new Electronics Competence Center (ECC) in Neustadt an der Donau, Atlas Copco EPS is sending a strong signal for the future of industry: energy-efficient, digitally planned and consistently sustainable. The project was awarded the BIM Prize Bavaria 2024 - and shows how modern planning and regional expertise work together perfectly.
From the very beginning, the ECC was planned with Building Information Modeling (BIM) - as a digital twin that connects all trades. This allowed processes to be coordinated efficiently, collisions to be identified early on and production facilities to be integrated with pinpoint accuracy. BIM also creates advantages in operation: All technical data is stored digitally, making maintenance and facility management much easier.
The energy concept is based on an emission-free air-to-water heat pump and photovoltaic systems with a total output of 350 kWp. Supplemented by a building-integrated PV façade, the ECC covers almost half of its energy requirements with solar energy and saves around 143 tons of CO₂ every year. An intelligent charging infrastructure also supplies e-mobility at the site.
On around 4,160 m², the ECC combines production, research, training and meetings - a center for innovation and exchange. The concept has already been demonstrated in action at the "Innovation & Networking Days 2025".
"The ECC is the place where we shape the future together with our partners," says Romain Lamiré, General Manager at Atlas Copco EPS.
