Description
In Kaufering, we have connected several local heating islands from the 1990s to form a continuous district heating system and planned and implemented a climate-friendly biomass cogeneration plant with ORC technology in parallel. The new center burns natural wood chips and combines 6 MW of thermal output with 890 kW of electrical ORC power generation - completely decentralized feed-in
🔧 Highlights of our solution:
District heating rail: Connection of all local heating islands - also thermal-energetic connection of the industrial customer Hilti.
ORC combined cycle plant: Power generation from biomass in the CHP process - energetically and economically efficient.
Technical specification: 6,000 kWth + 890 kWel, built in 2008 - powerful, robust, a perfect fit.
Regional circular economy: use of local wood chips; 27,000 MWh of heat and 9,000 MWh of electricity per year; approx. 340 heating customers
đź’ˇ Why Kaufering is a showcase project for us:
We are transforming existing island structures into an integrated municipal energy system.
With ORC technology, we are focusing on double energy yield - electricity & heat from local wood.
Involving industry and the local community strengthens regional resilience and economic efficiency.
Our concept enables flexible scaling and contributes to climate neutrality by 2035
Conclusion: With Kaufering, we are showing how municipal heat supply can be designed to be sustainable, technically high-quality and low-emission. Gammel Engineering delivers infrastructure that provides heat and creates the future.
