BMW Landshut receives two awards for the light metal foundry

The aluminum smelting plant at the BMW site in Landshut is being expanded to include a heat recovery system in order to use the exhaust gases from the smelting plant more efficiently. The waste heat recovery concept for this comes from Gammel Engineering. The excess heat from the melting furnaces is fed into the plant's internal hot water network. Process cooling is generated via two absorption chillers with a total cooling capacity of approx. 2.0 MW and fed into the cold water network

The new energy concept makes better use of the existing infrastructure, recycles heat that was previously released into the atmosphere unused, saves electricity by reducing pump energy in the hot water network and by no longer requiring energy for the compressor chillers. All of this not only saves money, but also protects the environment by reducing CO2 emissions. The concept developed also makes the energy supply more flexible overall, making it easier to react to future developments.
Recently, the light metal foundry at BMW in Landshut was awarded two prizes in the International Aluminum Die Casting Competition: Gold for the BMW i3, Bronze for the new generation of air- and water-cooled boxer engines.
We are very happy for BMW and say: "Congratulations!"
