Description
In 2017, Goldsteig Käsereien Bayerwald GmbH made a conscious decision not to install its own boiler system and commissioned Gammel Engineering with an innovative solution: connection to the steam supply of the neighboring UPM paper mill via an intelligent remote steam network
🔧 Technical highlights:
- 500 kg/h pure steam generator & Heating condenser that converts steam into process-compatible pure steam and 95 °C heat
- Double-insulated plastic jacket pipes with special moisture and leakage monitoring prevent heat loss - even with pressure drop from 3.2 to 2.5 bar
- Heat exchanger with large surface area compensates for pressure drop and ensures high efficiency
🌱 Efficiency & Sustainability:
- CO₂ reduction of approx. 30%, by using excess waste heat from the paper mill instead of fossil fuels
- Fully integrated measurement, control and regulation technology, implemented in four construction phases
💡 Why the project is a Gammel showcase project:
- Win-win for the environment and economic efficiency - no new heating system, but climate-friendly steam from a regional source
- Engineering expertise: technically sophisticated routing, leakage monitoring and pressure optimization require precise planning
- Partnership-based implementation: intensively coordinated planning between the dairy, paper mill and energy supplier
