Regensburg REWAG Energiezentrale Dörnberg

Description

In the urban development area "Das Dörnberg" and surrounding districts, REWAG Regensburger Energie- und Wasserversorgung AG & Co. KG has built a new energy centre on the site of the former Bischofshof brewery. As a CO₂-neutral contracting solution, it has been supplying the "Dörnberg" residential district, the Bischofshof brewery and public facilities such as the St. Hedwig children's hospital with heat, steam and electricity since 2017. Hedwig children's hospital with heat, steam and electricity

Gammel Engineering developed the overall energy concept, supported the contracting model and took on the planning and coordination of all HVAC trades to implement the system

🔧 Scope & technology at a glance:

  • Source: Waste heat from 4 CHP units + peak load from 2 natural gas boilers
  • Power: approx. 9,500 kW thermal - for the residential quarter and commercial partners
  • Structure: two-storey technical building with 52,000 l buffer storage and expandable CHP plant
  • Contracting solution: REWAG built and operates the center - calculable in the long term and low-maintenance for investors and operators

💡 Why the Dörnberg energy center is a lighthouse project:

  • Gammel designed the energy centerpiece for an integrated quarter, brewery and clinic - pioneering in terms of energy policy and urban development.
  • The combination of CHP, gas modules, buffer storage and contracting guarantees security of supply at a fair price for users.
  • The strategic energy concept was developed in close consultation with REWAG, the brewery and investors - and implemented as a system solution.
  • In addition, a future strategy for retrofitting photovoltaics and electromobility was created
