Pegnitz Biomasse-Heizanlage Kellerberg

Description

In the heart of the "Am Kellerberg" residential area in Pegnitz, a central biomass heating plant operated by Wohnungsgenossenschaft Pegnitz e.G. supplies the surrounding multi-family homes with reliable and climate-friendly district heating. The site is an example of the successful integration of modern, renewable heat generation into residential construction - direct, decentralized and neighbourly.

The heating plant is based on a chip-fired biomass boiler that is operated entirely with renewable raw materials. The system is supplemented by an oil boiler reserve, which automatically kicks in during load peaks or in the event of a fault - for maximum supply security even on cold winter days.

Gammel Engineering was responsible for the planning and design of the entire heat generation system and its integration into the district heating network - from fuel logistics to the control strategy.

🔧 Highlights of our solution:

Regenerative heat generation in the district:

Central wood chip heating for CO₂-neutral supply of several residential blocks - clean, quiet, reliable.

Hybrid concept with reserve boiler:

Additional oil boiler ensures peak load coverage and operational reliability - redundant design for continuous operation.

Low-emission & close to living space:

Sophisticated positioning in the center of the district - short pipe runs, low losses, high energy efficiency.

Efficient district heating network structure:

Hydraulically optimized distribution network with low return temperatures - ideal for the continuous use of heat in existing buildings.
