Description
In Sengenthal, Max Bögl Bioenergie GmbH is building a pioneering KOMBI POWER SYSTEM® combined heat and power plant to supply the entire industrial site of the Max Bögl Group. We at Gammel Engineering are supporting the project with our expertise - from system integration and thermodynamic design to operational optimization. At the heart of the project are two wood gasifiers and a modified gas turbine with steam post-combustion - a highly efficient overall system based on renewable energy.
The system generates heat, high-pressure steam and electricity - entirely from natural wood. The exhaust steam generated supplies the production facilities, workshops and office buildings via an internal heating network - exactly where energy is needed. In addition, a conventional grate firing system with steam boiler ensures the supply in peak and outage situations.
🔧 Highlights of our solution:
Multivalent energy generation:
Two wood gasifiers (4.1 MW FWL each) + modified gas turbine + two-stage steam engine - electricity, process steam and useful heat from a single system.
Technical specification:
Total output 8.2 MW FWL from wood gasification + 8 MW FWL from grate firing - supplies production, drying, office and workshop completely decentrally.
Cascaded energy utilization:
Gas turbine exhaust air for steam production or direct drying; downstream steam engine stage generates electricity; exhaust steam heats the plant network.
Safe and scalable:
Grate firing with steam boiler as peak load reserve - maximum availability even with varying loads.
💡 Why Sengenthal is a lighthouse project for us:
We accompany high-end CHP technology with thermal system expertise - from wood gas to the steam network.
The KOMBI POWER SYSTEM® is an energy center based entirely on biomass - low in CO₂, industrially compatible and highly available.
The deep integration into the production site shows how industrial self-sufficiency can be made economical and resilient.
Our contribution: high efficiency, tailor-made design and smart control strategy - energy transition at plant level.
