Dorfen Biomasse Heizkraftwerk

Description

In the north of Dorfen, near Rinning, a biomass heating plant was built by the municipal utility company to supply private and municipal buildings - including schools, the hospital, Marienstift and residential areas - with climate-friendly heat. Gammel Engineering provided comprehensive support to Stadtwerke Dorfen as technical experts: from project development and planning of the biomass boiler (1.5 MW thermal output) to the design of a supplementary peak load gas boiler (3 MW) and integration into the local district heating network with a strategic expansion option for sewage sludge drying and EEG electricity generation.

The plant uses regional forest and landscape conservation wood and thus strengthens local value creation - including its own energy wood management - with a very low primary energy factor of just 0.13.

The system was further expanded by 2021 (Rinning II) and the total capacity increased to around 3.5 MW of heat output, made possible by the combination of biomass and peak load boilers.

What Gammel Engineering has achieved:

  • Holistic planning of all energy areas - heat, peak load, future sewage sludge drying and electricity production
  • Precise technical design: 1.5 MW biomass output + 3 MW gas backup
  • Integration into existing local and district heating system around Dorfen
  • Sustainability strategy with timber industry and high regulatory requirements - modular, expandable, efficient

This project impressively demonstrates how Gammel Engineering implements regenerative energy systems with a regional impact: technically precise, economically robust and always future-oriented.
