Reliable emergency steam boiler supply for industrial processes
In order to ensure the process-side steam supply of the chemical and special materials producer Nabaltec AG in the long term, Gammel Engineering planned and technically implemented an emergency steam boiler system together with the customer.
Nabaltec AG, a leading manufacturer of environmentally friendly, flame-retardant fillers and specialty oxides based in Schwandorf, has a strong presence in regional and international markets and is committed to sustainable corporate development.
Project requirement: Secure steam supply
Until now, Nabaltec AG's steam needs have been met by the Schwandorf waste-to-energy plant, which generates steam for industry and district heating from waste incineration.
Due to the upcoming restructuring of the waste incineration plant, it will no longer be able to permanently guarantee the steam supply from April 2026 - as the priority district heating contract takes precedence and the available capacity is not sufficient for Nabaltec at peak load times.
In order to avoid supply bottlenecks, a used but technically perfect steam boiler was selected together with Nabaltec, purchased and installed in a new steel construction building at the site.
Our services - general planning at the highest level:
Overall responsibility as general planner - included:
- structural planning
- property planning
- TBE integration
- coordination of trades
- transition and connection concepts
We contributed our entire engineering expertise - from the initial technical analysis and building and system planning to integration into the existing infrastructure.
Key technical data of the plant:
- Steam boiler output: 20 t/h
- Fired thermal output: 14.3 MW
- Feed water tank: 12.000 l volume
- Double softening system for the highest steam water quality
- New boiler house as a steel structure - flexibly expandable
This system is now a robust backbone for the steam supply at Nabaltec and secures the production process - even in times of technical uncertainty in waste recycling.
Why this project is important:
Safeguarding industrial processes: Steam is a central energy source for chemical production, reaction technology and thermal processes - and must not be allowed to fail.
Bridging a critical supply gap: Transitional solution until the waste incineration plant is converted - realized in the short term, sustainable in the long term.
Comprehensive planning: From technical concept development to structural and project planning through to system integration - everything from a single source.
Conclusion:
With this project, Gammel Engineering shows how to combine technical security of supply, economic pragmatism and the art of engineering - so that industry can work reliably even in stormy times.
Gammel Engineering - solutions that work before they are needed.
