We have the privilege of taking the heat supply in Neu-Ulm and Senden a big step forward for Stadtwerke Ulm with a new iKWK project at three locations.
The aim: efficient, flexible and climate-friendly - thanks to the smart combination of several technologies. And we are delighted to be involved in this forward-looking project.
What's inside?
3 × 1 MW river water heat pumps - using environmental heat from the Danube
2 × 2 MWₑₗ combined heat and power plants (H₂-ready) - powerful & future-proof
1,500 kW power-to-heat - converting surplus electricity into heat
Large heat storage tanks with 300 m³, 500 m³ and 2.000 m³ - for maximum grid flexibility
The result: the combination of CHP + environmental heat + power-to-heat + storage ensures high efficiency, maximum operating flexibility and a significant reduction in CO₂ - this is exactly what a modern heat transition looks like!
Together with Stadtwerke Ulm, we show how integrated heating solutions are planned today: future-proof, sustainable and regionally anchored.

iKWK in practice - how modern heat supply works!
At BHKW 2026, Dr.-Ing. Stefanie Reil provided exciting insights into the design and planning of iKWK systems.
cHP systems combine CHP plants, renewable heat sources and power-to-heat (PtH) to provide heat in line with the electricity market - technically demanding, regulatory complex, but full of opportunities for a flexible, climate-friendly energy supply.
