Decentralization proves its worth: And time and time again, the sun rises

Donald Trump couldn't have said that: The US president was beaming with joy as he pointed a finger at the planet eclipsed by the moon and squinted into the starlight. But because he didn't wear his "SoFi" glasses, his eyes must have burned afterwards

Perhaps Trump is still unaware of the incredible power emitted by the sun. Ten thousand times more energy than we humans consume on this globe. Whereby consuming is physically wrong: Converting it into another form should be the correct term. But because the arch-conservative Mr. President consistently describes what scientists and the media are spreading - "Don't look directly at the sun during the SoFi" - as fake news, he probably said to the people next to him: "Hold my glasses." It's possible that Trump could barely open his eyes afterwards, meaning he didn't even get to see the sun shining brightly again after the eclipse.

Was nothing to do with the blackout

And even though the Handelsblatt predicted in advance and quoted "James Conca, energy expert and advisor to the US Department of Energy", "the American power grid must prepare for this shock": Behind SoFi, the sun simply rose again.

Even "the solar blackout" (Handelsblatt) failed to materialize, despite the nine gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic systems (PVS) in the USA. This is because the advantage of PV, wind power or biogas is their decentralized nature. If a GW nuclear power plant is shut down, this immediately leads to a massive power outage. However, with thousands of plants spread across the country, even accidents or SoFis cannot trigger total blackouts.

This is true for the power supply in the USA - and of course also for the power supply here in Germany. During the partial solar eclipse in Germany two years ago, there were similar horror scenarios to those that are now taking place in the United States. And not just from dubious sources such as the Kopp publishing house or the online girls' magazine starflash.de: even serious media produced frightening headlines. "Blackout. Solar eclipse 2015: Will there be power cuts on Friday?" was one of the headlines in the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper.

But as real environmental energy experts had predicted: Nothing of the sort. "We have this under control with decentralized generation and distribution systems. And in future, storage systems and smart grids will also take over peak shaving, the balancing out of power peaks", not only the masterminds from the Gammel future energy team are certain of this.

With sun, wind, water and biogas into the future: politicians just need to understand this now. Ours, who keep saying we need more of it, but put up barriers and caps. Or those like Donald Trump, who would rather send miners into coal mines than let them build solar power plants. It could be so easy, so "incredibly beautiful, I'm on the verge of tears".
