You are responsible for recruiting in the company: What makes Gammel Engineering a special employer for you?
First of all, Gammel Engineering is a family business founded by Michael and Gudrun Gammel over 30 years ago. Family business means that the employees are family members - open discussion and debate is always possible.
Open interaction with each other is particularly important so that professional and private issues that may be a burden can be discussed and resolved at an early stage. We not only work together, but also organize leisure activities together where possible, in which family members are also involved.
We are lucky to work in an industry where we can actively contribute to protecting our environment through our commitment. We have always tried to save primary energy with our innovative technical solutions and, where energy is needed, to generate it as regeneratively and efficiently as possible. Where, if not with us, do you have these opportunities and freedoms to get involved in the "climate change project" in this way?
Which project are you particularly proud of - and why?
Difficult to answer, as we have been planning and implementing great projects for over 30 years.
However, the requirements have become more complex in recent years. For this reason, I find the project for Stadtwerke Bad Reichenhall, which is currently about to be commissioned, extremely exciting: the iKWK, i.e. innovative combined heat and power generation, combines three energy generation components that generate heat and electricity individually according to the current conditions and framework conditions. This covers the required heat demand and reacts to the volatility of the electricity grid; the amount of renewable electricity generated from photovoltaics and wind power is used to decide which unit (heat pump, combined heat and power plant or power to heat) is currently being operated, in short: power to demand
Gammel Engineering is committed to sustainability: What are you personally doing to combat climate change?
In our private lives, my partner and I focus on sustainability, climate protection and the careful use of resources. We have been running our own PV system for many years, have switched to LED lighting and replaced heating and domestic water pumps with high-efficiency pumps. We have just prepared charging facilities for a new electric vehicle. We generate the base load heat for our house with wood, which we obtain from thinning our own forest property.
However, it is particularly important to us that the food we consume comes from the region wherever possible - vegetables from our own garden or from the farms of nearby farmers. When it comes to meat and sausage, less is more, and most of it comes from local free-range farms.

Rising energy and raw material prices can be counteracted by using sustainable energy technologies and thus reducing CO2 emissions. This not only significantly reduces cost explosions, but also reduces your own ecological footprint. Pioneers in the dairy industry are also focusing on this.
Some people are simply indispensable in a company - Thomas "Tom" Winkler is one of them. He started with us around 25 years ago as a young engineer and grew from project manager to project manager to authorized signatory. With a great deal of passion and dedication, he has become a permanent fixture in our management team. But above all, Tom is a real team player who always has an open ear, is always willing to help and makes everyday life easier with his good humor.
