The Renewable Energies Heat Act is another law alongside the EEG that promotes the use of renewable energies and the conservation of resources. Under the Renewable Energies Heat Act (EEWärmeG), owners of new buildings (building application after 01.01.2009) and fundamentally renovated buildings are obliged to cover part of the heating or cooling supply from renewable energies or to take any replacement measures, such as increasing the energy efficiency of a building through above-average insulation measures. The owner is free to choose the energy source to cover the mandatory share, but the specified mandatory share differs from energy source to energy source (e.g. 15% for the use of solar radiation energy, 30% for the use of biogas and 50% for the use of solid and liquid biomass and geothermal energy)
