Power grid

A power grid is used to provide electrical energy. It collects electricity from generation plants and transports it to the consumer. In Germany, the electricity grid covers a length of 1.8 million km (as of 2013) and can be divided into extra-high, high, medium and low voltage. The advantage of large electricity grids is that fluctuations in electricity generation and consumption can be balanced out, reducing the need for balancing energy.
