The minute reserve capacity must be available within 15 minutes. It is used to balance out fluctuations in the electricity grid in the medium term and is traded via the balancing energy market. This requires less than 2000 MW. The providers receive a capacity price for the pure provision of reserve capacity, as well as a working price if these reserves are used to balance the grid. In this case, the supplier ramps the system up or down within 15 minutes and thus balances the electricity grid. The balancing works both in the event of electricity overproduction (negative balancing power) and electricity shortages (positive balancing power).
