Energy Glossary

Heat accumulator

Heat storage tanks are used to store thermal energy in the form of heat. They first absorb heat that is not required and then release it again when heat is needed. A distinction is made between sensible heat storage (change in temperature through the addition or release of heat), latent heat storage (change in aggregate state) and thermochemical storage (storage of thermal energy through heat-absorbing or heat-releasing reactions).
