Grid usage fees are charges levied by the grid operator for the transmission of energy in the form of gas or electricity to the grid user. If the electricity is purchased via an energy supplier, the supplier pays the fees to the grid operator and then passes the fees on to the end customer. The basis for determining the grid usage fees is the Electricity Grid Charges Ordinance (StromNEV) and the Gas Grid Charges Ordinance (GasNEV). Furthermore, the amount of the grid usage fees is controlled and regulated by the Federal Network Agency.
