Decentralized power generation describes the generation of electrical energy, usually close to the point of consumption, by rather small plants distributed throughout the region. The electricity generated is either purchased by local consumers or fed into the medium or low-voltage grid. On the one hand, renewable power generation plants such as wind energy, photovoltaic or biomass plants as well as combined heat and power plants, combined heat and power plants and gas and steam turbine power plants are suitable for decentralized power generation.
